Yandy Chirino

Yandy was one of the most welcoming, thoughtful, and happy souls we have ever encountered. He loved to travel and spend time with his family and friends. On March 14, 1993, he was born in Havana, Cuba. He migrated to Miami, Florida as a young child with his parents and became a US citizen at ten years old.

Yandy graduated from Coral Park High school in 2011 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice at FIU in 2015. He was an MVP athlete who played volleyball, soccer, baseball, and basketball.

Yandy began his dream of becoming a police officer with the Hollywood Police Department in 2017. He served the Hollywood Police with pride and professionalism and had an incredible work ethic!

On October 17, 2021, at around 10:30 pm, Yandy made the ultimate sacrifice and died protecting the city of Hollywood in an attempt to apprehend a criminal. Officer Chirino was 28-years-old and had been with the Hollywood Police Department since 2017. In the short time he was with the Department, he was recognized multiple times for his outstanding work ethic. He received five commendations and was Officer of the Month for June 2020. Officer Chirino gave his life honorably and without hesitation, protecting those in our community.

Yandy was only 28 years old and is survived by his mother, father, sister, niece and nephew, girlfriend, friends, and all of his brothers and sisters at the Hollywood Police Department.
